A non-profit organization located in the heart of Downtown Montreal in beautiful offices is looking for a Chief Accountant to fill the position for one year. You will report directly to a very collaborative and accessible Director of Finance and IT who is a great communicator. He is very open, present for his team and takes time for them. As Chief Accountant, you will supervise the accounting activities performed by the Accounting Technician and the Accounting Clerk, participate in the preparation of the annual budget and prepare, develop and analyze the monthly financial statements. In addition, you will be responsible for participating in the finance and audit committee as well as the development, improvement and implementation of internal control policies. Moreover, you will coordinate and oversee the annual audit, prepare general journal entries for payroll and payroll taxes, reconcile and analyze salaries paid each pay period and calculate employer contributions to the pension plan. You will also reconcile employer/employee contributions to the College's pension plan, prepare annual provincial and federal summaries and verify fees and honoraria paid. You will also be responsible for reconciling deductions at source, remitting to Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency, issuing annual tax slips, preparing annual provincial and federal summaries, and purchasing and redeeming guaranteed investment certificates. Finally, you will prepare quarterly tax reports (GST and QST) and support the Director in various special projects.
Bilingual CPA with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with experience in the full accounting cycle and in decentralized accounting. The candidate must be computer literate and have excellent writing and communication skills. We are looking for a candidate with a problem-solving approach and the ability to bring innovative ideas, prioritize and manage several files simultaneously as well as demonstrate professionalism, courtesy and discretion. Thoroughness and autonomy are required.
