Our client, a rapidly growing SME in the construction industry, is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team. With rapid growth and a booming revenue, the company is looking for someone to support their financial controller and who is eager to actively contribute to the success of a fast-growing business where every contribution has a direct impact on performance. You will report to a manager who values teamwork and collaboration. The position is offered in a hybrid work mode.
As an Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. You will actively participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close, ensuring the analysis and reconciliation of closing accounts to identify and correct any discrepancies. You will also be involved in preparing accounting files for external audits.
Another of your responsibilities will be managing the GST/QST reports, ensuring their accuracy and compliance. You will play a key role in the onboarding of new employees, ensuring that payroll, email setups, IT equipment, and employee benefits are set up smoothly and effectively. While payroll is handled by an external service, you will be responsible for managing employee benefits, such as RRSPs and insurance.
You will supervise expense accounts and vendor accounts, ensuring adherence to internal procedures. You will also control project costs and revenues, comparing them to budgets and explaining discrepancies when necessary. You will assist in managing cash flow, ensuring the financial health of the company.
This position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team while managing diverse responsibilities in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
Candidate with a minimum of 5 years of experience, with a couple of years in an accounting firm, preferably in the construction sector. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who is eager to grow within the company. You must be willing to learn, develop, and take on new responsibilities as your professional growth progresses. Holding a CPA designation is an asset.
The ideal candidate is someone with strong attention to detail, a high level of organizational skills, and a strong sense of rigor. Autonomy and the ability to take on responsibilities are essential. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset are also crucial for working as part of a team and achieving common goals.
