Market + Benefits
We are offering you the opportunity to join a leading Canadian engineering firm as a Senior Advisor – Financial Strategy for Client Proposals. Recognized for its expertise and the scale of its projects, the organization is experiencing strong growth and is looking to strengthen its financial practices related to RFPs and complex projects. You will report to the FP&A Manager, a highly regarded, approachable and bright leader known for strong people skills. You will benefit from their support while developing a high level of autonomy in a collaborative and stimulating environment. Cielo has an excellent reputation within the organization, where we have had the pleasure of placing several professionals who continue to thrive and grow within the company. The organization places a strong emphasis on people, teamwork, collaboration, and work-life balance. This position is offered in a hybrid work model.
As Senior Advisor – Financial Strategy for Client Proposals, you will play a strategic role within the finance team and contribute directly to the analysis, financial modeling, and profitability of client proposals. You will work on complex RFPs and collaborate closely with project teams, sector vice-presidents, legal teams, and procurement to develop proposals that are competitive, profitable, and aligned with the organization’s commercial realities.
You will be responsible for designing and enhancing financial models to assess the profitability and risks associated with various proposals. You will translate sometimes complex operational assumptions into clear financial projections, perform sensitivity and scenario analyses, and prepare comparative analyses to support recommendations presented to various internal committees.
A significant portion of your role will focus on RFPs. You will analyze and break down RFP documentation to identify financial requirements, commercial risks, indexation mechanisms, and their potential impact on costs and margins. In collaboration with the teams responsible for bid submissions, you will contribute to developing financial strategies that optimally position each proposal.
You will also play an important role in developing and enhancing internal pricing and bidding tools. You will help standardize and simplify existing tools and develop self-service templates that enable operational teams to prepare less complex proposals more efficiently. You will also contribute to developing corporate databases containing professional profiles, internal costs, and target pricing, as well as cost models incorporating various components such as salaries, software, facilities, training, support, and risk.
When you join, your role will initially be split approximately 50% between RFPs and 50% between the development of internal tools. This allocation will gradually evolve as the number and scale of projects increase. During your first few months, you will focus on understanding the organization’s business model and cost structure, reviewing past proposals, and quickly developing your knowledge of the key stakeholders involved in the bidding process.
Finally, you will need to quickly adapt to new RFPs, which can arise at any time and require the ability to rapidly understand their financial and commercial implications. You will act as an internal financial modeling expert and help translate complex analyses into clear insights to facilitate decision-making. You will benefit from the Director’s support and coaching, particularly during your onboarding and on priority projects, while progressively developing a high degree of autonomy in your role.
You are bilingual and hold a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, engineering, or a related field, with 7 to 12 years of experience in financial modeling, commercial analysis, pricing, or project finance. A CPA or CFA designation, as well as experience in professional services, engineering, construction, or telecommunications, would be considered strong assets.
You have solid experience with complex RFPs, advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, and strong commercial acumen. Analytical and detail-oriented, you are skilled at identifying financial risks, synthesizing key issues, and providing clear recommendations to senior management.
A true business partner, you are comfortable collaborating with vice-presidents, directors, and multidisciplinary teams. You stand out for your ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly, as well as your autonomy, critical thinking, and ability to influence stakeholders.
