Description

Our client, a large Québec-based organization undergoing significant transformation and delivering strong social impact, is seeking to add a VP of Finance who will play a central role in structuring and modernizing the finance function. Experiencing strong growth in both revenues and number of sites, the organization is pursuing rapid expansion across several regions of Québec. You will join a stimulating environment where operational volume is high, processes are evolving, and numerous transformation initiatives are underway, ranging from financial consolidation to the enhancement of tools and the standardization of multi-site payroll. The organization places great importance on work-life balance, offering a flexible schedule and a hybrid work model (50% remote).

You will report directly to an entrepreneurial, energetic, and collaborative executive leadership. This is an authentic leadership style that values teamwork, provides a high level of autonomy, and seeks a true partner capable of challenging constructively with respect and transparency. You will have the opportunity to influence both financial performance and a meaningful human mission, where the quality of services delivered remains a core priority. This is a rare opportunity to build, structure, and leave your mark within a rapidly evolving organization.

From day one, you will play a key role in stabilizing and structuring the finance function. Within your first six months, you will take ownership of a budgeting process that will already be completed upon your arrival, ensuring ongoing monitoring and necessary adjustments. You will also lead a major initiative: the full repatriation of payroll, including recruitment, process implementation, compliance, and close coordination between HR and Finance teams. In parallel, you will focus on securing and mobilizing the existing team in a context where stability is critical, and you will propose a clear 12-month roadmap by your 90-day milestone. Your arrival will also mark the beginning of more robust structuring of controls, financial reporting, cash flow management, and the oversight of grants and financing.

As part of your ongoing responsibilities, you will lead the annual budget, financial forecasts, and the overall performance monitoring of the organization. You will ensure the accuracy and high quality of both monthly and annual financial statements, and provide clear, strategic, and precise information to the President and the Board of Directors. You will also be responsible for producing high-level financial analyses for Board presentations. In addition, you will manage treasury, financing, and grants, while maintaining strong relationships with financial institutions and government bodies.

You will oversee a high transactional volume, including accounting, payroll, and statutory remittances, while modernizing processes, internal controls, and financial management tools. In this context, you will conduct a diagnostic of existing payroll systems and assess the opportunity for system changes or optimizations based on organizational needs. Your role will also involve supporting leadership in decisions related to expansion, investments, and real estate projects, within a context of accelerated, multi-site growth. Finally, you will lead and develop the finance team (accounting, payroll, FP&A), fostering collaboration, accountability, and sustainable performance, positioning the finance function as a true strategic partner to the organization.

Profile

CPA designation, bilingual, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including several years in a high-impact strategic role. You are able to structure and scale a finance function in a context of accelerated growth, while maintaining a clear and disciplined focus on margins, particularly in tight-margin environments. Your natural ease working with a Board of Directors, committees, and within government reporting requirements makes you a credible and reassuring partner to stakeholders, capable of producing and translating high-level financial analyses to support strategic decision-making.

You thrive in environments with high transactional volume and know how to build—going beyond optimizing what already exists to establishing strong foundations, robust processes, and modern tools. You are accustomed to assessing existing systems, conducting clear diagnostics, and, when required, leading transformation initiatives, particularly related to payroll or financial systems. Your communication style is clear, direct, and respectful: you say what needs to be said, at the right time. Experience in a non-profit organization, retail, multisite or fast-paced service environments, as well as familiarity with real estate financing, grants, or funding structures, will be considered strong assets.

You are autonomous, proactive, and rigorous, with a natural ability to anticipate organizational needs. You take genuine pleasure in your work and in demonstrating leadership—and it shows through your energy, engagement, and strong alignment with the organization’s mission. We are looking for someone who can transfer knowledge and elevate their team to the next level. You are comfortable going deep into the details while maintaining a strong strategic perspective. At ease in environments where Board expectations are high, you remain composed, structured, and confident, even when discussions become more demanding. Your presence inspires trust, particularly with the President, and you remain steady and credible during high-stakes Board discussions.
