We are offering an exciting opportunity to join one of Canada's leading professional services firms as Director, Billing and Accounts Receivable. Recognized globally for the excellence of its services, the quality of its people, and its prestigious client base, the firm offers a dynamic work environment where collaboration, talent development, and innovation are at the heart of its culture. You will report to the Senior Director of Finance, a leader known for his approachable, supportive, and people-focused leadership style. This position is offered on a hybrid work model.
As the Director, Billing and Accounts Receivable, you will play a strategic leadership role within the Finance team, overseeing the firm's billing, accounts receivable, and collections functions. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, you will actively contribute to the optimization of financial processes, the enhancement of internal controls, and the implementation of best practices to ensure efficient and effective financial operations. This newly created position offers a unique opportunity to shape the function, make a meaningful impact on the organization, and support a significant business transformation.
You will oversee all billing activities, including both traditional and electronic billing, as well as collections operations, ensuring the accuracy of transactions, monitoring key performance indicators, provisions, and high-risk accounts. You will be responsible for optimizing the entire billing-to-cash cycle by reducing billing and collection timelines, fostering a stronger sense of urgency among stakeholders, and implementing best practices to improve accounts receivable management. You will also ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
As a leader, you will manage, coach, and develop a team of managers while fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance. You will support your teams through a period of organizational change, establish an effective operating structure, and build strong relationships with practice groups, lawyers, legal assistants, and other internal stakeholders. Acting as a trusted business partner, you will advise professionals on billing, collections, and process improvement initiatives.
You will also play a key role in the firm's transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. In particular, you will contribute to the migration of the 3E ERP platform to the Cloud version by participating in the implementation, testing, business requirements definition, and user adoption of new technologies. You will identify opportunities to streamline processes, optimize management tools, improve data quality, and enhance the overall efficiency of financial operations.
Finally, you will prepare and present financial analyses, key performance indicators, and executive dashboards to support senior management's decision-making process and ensure effective performance monitoring. You will also participate in audits, maintain a strong internal control environment, and contribute to strategic Finance initiatives.
The key challenges of this role include establishing a sustainable structure for a newly created function, leading teams through organizational change, modernizing billing processes, accelerating the billing-to-cash cycle, and playing an active role in the technological transformation of the Finance function.
You are a bilingual CPA (or hold an equivalent professional designation) with a minimum of 15 years of experience in finance and accounting, including at least five years in a leadership role. You possess extensive expertise in billing, accounts receivable, and the technology platforms that support these functions, along with proven experience managing managers and supervisors. Experience within a law firm, engineering firm, or other professional services environment is considered a strong asset.
We are seeking a collaborative and people-oriented leader with a strong customer service mindset, recognized for driving change, optimizing processes, and serving as a trusted business partner to professionals. You demonstrate sound judgment, strong political acumen, and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to balance firmness and diplomacy in your leadership approach.
