Description

We are offering an opportunity to join a Quebec-based organization operating in the services sector, within a complex and dynamic operational environment, as a Cost and Profitability Analyst. The company continues to enhance its management practices and tools to gain deeper insights into its performance and support effective decision-making.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will hold an analytical role, working closely with Operations and various business partners. We know this manager very well, having supported him throughout his professional career and successfully placed several professionals within his team. Intelligent, dynamic, and approachable, he promotes a participative management style and encourages the adoption of best practices and continuous improvement. You will also enjoy working in attractive, modern offices and benefit from a stable work schedule.

You will have a high degree of autonomy and contribute to developing analyses that provide a clearer understanding of costs, profitability, and the key drivers of organizational performance. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional looking to make a tangible impact by enhancing the analytical and decision-support tools of a well-established organization. You will also have the opportunity to work in a multicultural environment with strong values and a clear business vision. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement.

As a Cost and Profitability Analyst, you will play a key role in understanding the financial performance of the organization's network and various business activities. Your mandate will be to develop a clear understanding of the full costs and financial contribution of these activities by transforming large volumes of financial and operational data into reliable, meaningful analyses that support decision-making. Your role will combine management accounting, data analysis, financial modelling, and close collaboration with Operations.

A significant portion of your responsibilities will focus on developing and improving cost accounting models. You will analyze costs across various business lines, activities, and operating units. In particular, you will need to understand and model the main components of operating costs, including direct, variable, fixed, and allocated costs, to accurately assess the profitability of different activities.

The environment involves a high degree of analytical complexity, with multiple business lines, activities, and operational variables to consider simultaneously. You will need to navigate these different dimensions to understand what truly drives costs and profitability. The initial learning curve will require curiosity and patience, as developing a solid understanding of the chart of accounts, various data sources, and the business model will be essential to producing relevant analyses.

You will prepare detailed profitability analyses across various dimensions, including activities, periods, customers, and contracts. You will compare revenues against direct, variable, and allocated fixed costs to assess contribution margins and identify key performance drivers. You will also analyze variances between actual results, budgets, forecasts, and operational assumptions to explain fluctuations and underlying trends.

Your work will directly contribute to commercial and operational decision-making. You will develop financial scenarios to assess various initiatives, business opportunities, and operational decisions. You will also support strategic discussions related to pricing, operational capacity, and resource utilization by evaluating their financial impact.

Data quality and effective data utilization will be central to this role. Initially, the position is expected to be divided approximately equally between management accounting and in-depth data analysis. As data, tools, and processes become more mature, the objective will be to dedicate more time to financial analysis and management accounting. You will therefore actively contribute to improving data quality, consistency, traceability, and integrity, while helping automate selected reports and processes.

You will also have the opportunity to enhance an internally developed profitability system created by the IT team. Your mandate will involve understanding its underlying logic, challenging its assumptions, and contributing to its ongoing improvement. In addition, you will develop dashboards and key performance indicators to monitor unit costs, margins, and network profitability, with the goal of creating clear, practical tools that can be used directly during management meetings.

Finally, this role will require a strong ability to communicate financial and analytical information in a clear and accessible manner. You will work closely with various operational teams and departments to validate data, understand the business realities behind the numbers, and ensure that the assumptions used are relevant and accurate. You will then translate sometimes complex analyses into straightforward, actionable insights and recommendations, including for non-financial stakeholders.

This position represents an excellent opportunity for a professional who enjoys understanding the story behind the numbers, managing and structuring large volumes of data, and building cost models that influence meaningful business decisions. The initial complexity is an integral part of the mandate: you will need to understand how multiple business lines, financial variables, and operational realities interact to provide the organization with a much deeper and more accurate understanding of its performance and profitability.

Profile

A bilingual professional holding a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field, you bring a minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, organizational transformation, process optimization, or change management. A CPA designation and formal training in change management are considered strong assets.

You have contributed to transformation initiatives, process improvement projects, and the implementation of ERP systems or management tools. You are skilled at assessing existing practices, recommending tailored solutions, and supporting teams through the implementation and adoption of new processes.

A collaborative leader with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you excel at bringing people together and fostering teamwork. Solution-oriented and committed to continuous improvement, you know how to engage stakeholders and successfully drive change initiatives.
