Description

We are offering you the opportunity to join a leading international manufacturing company as a Financial Controller. With operations across several countries, the organization operates in a dynamic, multi-site environment and is currently undergoing a significant phase of growth and transformation. You will report directly to the President of the Americas, a demanding, committed, and hard-working leader who holds himself and his team to high performance standards. You will play a key role within the Americas finance team and gain significant exposure to operations and a wide range of financial matters in an international environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA looking to grow within a structured and collaborative organization while making a tangible contribution to financial performance, process improvement, and the continued evolution of the finance function. The position is offered in a hybrid work model and includes opportunities for travel, particularly to the United States.

As Financial Controller, you will play a central role within the finance function and will be responsible for overseeing financial activities across North and Central American operations. You will lead a team of approximately 20 employees, including 8 direct and 12 indirect reports, and work closely with regional leadership as well as local and corporate finance teams. Your responsibilities will primarily cover operations in Canada and the United States, in addition to overseeing the financial activities of joint ventures in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

A significant portion of your role will focus on the quality and reliability of financial information. You will oversee the financial close cycles, preparation of financial statements, variance analysis, and regional reporting. You will ensure that financial information is accurate, complete, and delivered within required timelines, while maintaining a thorough understanding of the financial performance of the region’s various operations.

You will also be responsible for maintaining a strong control environment across the various entities. You will oversee the maintenance and continuous improvement of internal controls and financial process governance. You will coordinate audits and external requests and take ownership of more complex technical accounting matters under IFRS and ASPE, including situations requiring the development and documentation of accounting positions and professional judgments.

Compliance will also represent an important component of your responsibilities. Working closely with internal teams and external advisors, you will oversee tax, customs, accounting, and corporate compliance requirements across the jurisdictions under your responsibility. You will interact regularly with tax advisors, external auditors, banks, and specialized consultants to ensure that matters are handled appropriately and within required timelines.

Beyond reporting and compliance, you will actively contribute to the financial management of the operations. You will support treasury and working capital management, participate in financial forecasting, and monitor key indicators related to costs, inventory, and product costing. Your understanding of the operations will be essential in identifying variances, understanding their underlying causes, and helping teams make informed financial decisions.

You will also play an important role in managing risks related to regional operations. This will include monitoring matters related to tariffs and supply chain, as well as certain insurance and claims files. Within an international environment, you will be expected to anticipate the financial impact of these issues and collaborate with the appropriate teams to ensure they are managed proactively.

The transformation of the finance function will also be an important part of your mandate. You will actively contribute to regional finance initiatives and corporate finance projects, including the continued development of consolidation and FP&A tools, process automation, and various technology initiatives. The environment includes SAP S/4HANA, HFM, Vena, Copilot, and other artificial intelligence initiatives. You will act as a key partner in driving the adoption of these tools and supporting the continued evolution of the finance team’s processes and ways of working.

Finally, your role will require ongoing collaboration with multiple functions across the organization. You will work closely with Americas regional leadership as well as Operations, Sales, Customer Service, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Supply Chain teams. You will need to understand their business realities, communicate financial matters in a clear and accessible manner, and build strong connections between Finance and Operations. Your success in this role will depend as much on your financial expertise as on your ability to lead a sizeable team within an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Profile

Bilingual CPA with over 8 years of experience in financial controllership, ideally within a multi-site, international, publicly traded manufacturing organization. You have strong expertise in financial accounting, product costing, inventory management, consolidation, internal controls, and IFRS or US GAAP.

You also have a solid understanding of taxation, customs, transfer pricing, and audits, and are comfortable working in a North American environment involving intercompany transactions, multiple currencies, and corporate reporting requirements. Experience in the food industry or in public accounting with a portfolio of manufacturing clients would be considered a strong asset.

Tech-savvy and comfortable with financial systems, you are proficient in Microsoft 365 and have experience with SAP S/4HANA; knowledge of SAP Analytics Cloud, Hyperion/SmartView, FloQast, and Vena would be considered an asset. A collaborative, rigorous, and autonomous leader, you demonstrate strong business judgment and the ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly to senior management. Fluency in both French and English is essential, and you must be willing to travel occasionally to the United States.
