We are looking for an Assistant Controller within an established, entrepreneurial, transforming, attractively sized, acquisition-driven SME. You will be working directly for a boss with an open door approach who has risen through the ranks and is currently the #2 in finance. He is very appreciated by his team, he advocates listening, transferring his skills and knowledge in a continuous improvement mode. Given its strong growth, the organization is reviewing its processes and structure of the finance department and needs to hire more resources.
The Assistant Controller will have a management scope of approximately 10 people in operational and financial accounting and will be responsible for the numerous financial statements, analysis of consolidated and intercompany results, internal controls and audit file. The team is spread over a few sites in Canada. In the first year, the Controller will be responsible for integrating new acquisitions, putting them on the same system, ensuring that processes and controls are effective. The successful candidate will act as a business partner to operations and senior management by discussing budgeting with them and then understanding and explaining variances, as well as benchmarking.
Also in the role of manager, the Controller must coach the team to ensure that account reconciliations, accruals, inventories and inter-company balances balance to produce consistent financial statements that accurately represent reality.
Your challenge will be to create your position in this reorganization of the finance function and to put in place the foundations on processes, systems and also to transfer your knowledge to your team in order to support the rapid growth of the company.
We are looking for a CPA who wants to contribute to the growth and profitability of an SME and who thinks in continuous improvement mode. This position provides visibility as you will be in contact with the operations managers of your division so you will get a peripheral view of what is going on while understanding the granularity of what your team is doing to improve their non-value added repetitive tasks towards automation and more work that will impact the organization.
Bilingual manager with an understanding of operations who has worked in a similar financial and budget management role with 10+ years of relevant experience and a CPA designation. The Controller must understand strategy and at the same time be able to be hands on to structure their department, put processes, controls and systems in place and act as a financial business partner to operations.
He/she will have an intrapreneurial approach, possess good leadership and be able to transfer his/her skills to his/her team and also be good at communicating with multidisciplinary stakeholders. Knowledge of inventory, systems, inter-company and continuous improvement will be an important asset for this role.
