For a family owned and operated acquisition mode business in the fast growing retail sector, you will work as a Controller. You will report to a friendly Finance Director who Cielo has known very well for years and who we like. She wants to grow her teams, has good business sense and is very thorough.  The company offers insurance, a pension fund, a competitive salary and vacation. As a Controller, you will prepare monthly financial statements, provide explanations for variances with prior year, with budget and with previous forecast as well as perform and review tasks related to the month-end process including bank reconciliations, accruals, and other balance sheet reconciliations. You will also prepare monthly tax and compliance reports, oversee accounting processes, support the Director of Finance, collaborate with external auditors during year-end audits and produce, create, and analyze reports for internal analysis. Moreover, you will develop and improve financial processes to ensure efficiency of team and accuracy of information as well as participate in the optimization of administrative processes. Your position will give you the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues to optimize the accounting organizational structure. You will manage, lead, and coach a team of 2-3 direct reports (accounting technicians and interns), optimise the work and performance of employees, as well as assist in the recruitment and organization of the finance department. Furthermore, you will guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures, in addition to offering recommendations for improvements and implement new processes. You will also be responsible for cash and risk management, as well as forecast cash flow over various periods.

You will foster strong working relationships across the company and act as a business partner by supporting current activities and working proactively to identify opportunities for finance. Finally, you will get to collaborate on ad-hoc projects, such as the implementation of new ERP.


Fluently bilingual candidate with a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role and a Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or Administration, as well as management experience. We are looking for an Excel savvy candidate with a strong customer focus, excellent relationship building skills and a collaborative work style. The candidate must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be highly organized and thorough. The candidate will be hands on, detail oriented and able to see the big picture. Holding a CPA designation is an asset.
